The salt factory stands on the western edge of the vast Palma saltworks, along the Sa Perda Bianca canal, now known as Terramaini. The median roadway was built on the opposite bank. The industrial building, built to exploit salt byproducts, is characterized by the simple volumes of its three buildings—two low and a taller central one—and the base of the old chimney.

The restoration work on the former saltworks, commissioned by the Molentargius Saline Park Authority of Cagliati to the company COEDIL SUD, primarily involved the conservative restoration of the building's shell and historic industrial machinery, as well as the structural reconstruction of the wooden roof.
