The contract involved the restoration of the former marine hospital and convent of Santa Chiara in Alghero. Construction of the Santa Chiara complex began in 1641 with the foundation of the church of the same name, next to the ancient church of Santa Croce. In 1741, the nuns' dormitory was built, adjoining the entire eastern side of the church. In 1726, following a collapse, the church was rebuilt and the monastery expanded: these original structures presumably remain unchanged to this day. In 1912, the New Hospital of Mercy was built overlooking the Magellan bastions, adjacent to the ancient monastery and connected to it by an internal staircase. Before the restoration work, commissioned to the company COEDIL SUD by the Municipality of Alghero, the entire complex was in significant physical and structural disrepair.
